Selected from a roll of Ilford HP5 shot on a Mamiya RB67. The frame shows the north light falling across the weaving shed floor, which became the anchor image for the whole series.
A detail study of English bond brickwork in Manchester's terraced housing. The negative was printed on warm-tone fibre paper to bring out the subtle tonal separation in the shadowed mortar joints.
Test strip from the printing session for the "Silver and Shadow" essay. The exposure range between 18 and 24 seconds gave the cleanest highlights without blocking the mid-tones in the mill windows.
